The
Jewish Communities of Kaifeng & San'a
The exotic Jewish communities of Kaifeng (China) and San'a (Yemen) are
the subject of this fascinating video. About 1,000 years ago, a group of
Jewish merchants from Persia settled in Kaifeng, the then capital of China.
Jews were welcomed and given complete religious freedom. Over the years,
they adopted some of the local customs and married Chinese women who converted
to Judaism. In the second segment, the lifestyle of the Jews of San'a is
thoroughly explored up to and including their immigration to Israel after
1948.
