Emperors and Rebels: The Story of
Hanukah
Asaf Golan gives us the historical
background that most of us never learned about Judah Maccabee and the Hasmonean
Revolt. This 2-part biographical documentary chronicles the life and times of
the eccentric Seleucid king, Antiochus Epiphanes (Part I), and the defiant rebel
Judah, son of Mattathias (Part II). Digital combat re-creation sequences and
world renowned paintings serve as the backdrop for understanding the events that
led to the war of freedom which began in 168 B.C.E. These well-researched
programs feature historians Stanley M. Burstein, Doron Mendels, Erich S. Gruen
and Lawrence H. Schiffman. Everything you always wanted to know about the
Hanukah story, but were afraid to ask!
The DVD has additional pedagogic
information, drawn from a variety of texts and sources. Both programs are on one
DVD.

The Mishkan
Following the Exodus from Egypt, the
children of Israel were commanded, "Make me a sanctuary and I shall dwell among
you." The Mishkan was the portable forerunner of the Temple, located in the center of
their encampment in the desert. Using computer generated graphics, this video enables us
to view all the components of the Mishkan from the Boards (Krashim) to the Sockets
(Adanim), from the Holy of Holies (Kodesh Hakodashim) to the alters, from the eight
garments worn by the High Priest (Kohen Gadol) to the four garments of the regular Priests
(the Cohen Hediot). And much much more. This video is unprecedented in its ability to
teach this fascinating subject matter in a fun and informative manner.

Wake
The Dawn: The Story of the Temple
King David sought a sacred home for the Ark of the Covenant and chose
what has become known as the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, on which the first
and second Holy Temples would later be built. Through the use of
animation and documentary footage, we learn about the physical and spiritual
dimensions of the 'Beit Hamikdash'. Biblical, Talmudic and Midrashic sources
contribute to our greater understanding of the centrality of the Temple in
Jewish life and prayer.
