Night
and Fog
In 1955, French filmmaker Alain Resnais made one of the first documentaries
to tackle the Holocaust. It was neither a history nor an in-depth
study; rather, it was a series of visual reflections by a Frenchman on
the atrocities of a decade earlier. In it, he weaves contemporary images
of the "serene" abandoned concentration camps with newsreel footage of
the atrocities. Great care should be taken in utilizing this video in educational
settings because of the graphic images. Still, this remains one of the
greatest film documentaries of all time.
